Team Leadership

Course Description

This course is designed to improve team performance by teaching delegates the essential elements of leading a team. It addresses the core issues of leadership and management and uses a large number of interactive exercises, both physical and intellectual. Participants are expected to bring their own experiences to the session, to enable them to assess their current knowledge and understanding and identify points for development.

The course focuses on leading teams, but also includes techniques to be used for managing groups of individuals and bringing them to a state of
being a fully functioning team. It will also enable managers to work towards a strategy for pro-active development of their teams.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the course, delegates will be able to

  • understand the link between team building and emotions

  • recognise their skill level in terms of the competencies of a team leader

  • understand the link and the distinction between leadership and
    management

  • develop their team from the existing group

  • use the appropriate management style (EG: the “high growth model”, Action Centred Leadership and team leadership execution skills)

  • manage the different types of workers within teams

  • build a team actively

  • use the GROW model in coaching style interaction with members of their teams

Target Audience

This course is aimed principally at supervisors, team leaders and middle managers, and can be adapted for delivery to a group of senior managers or executives depending on client requirements. It is also designed to help those who are moving up the management chain and can be adapted to a more junior group of delegates.
