Course Description

This course provides team leaders and supervisors with the basic skills and techniques required to be a successful business leader.

Following the completion of this programme, fast training – one of Europe’s leading management and technical training providers for the financial sector – will award a certificate to the participant.

Programme Content


Unit 1 – Assertiveness and Personal Effectiveness
  • Define assertive and effective behaviour, while recognising one’s own aggressive and passive behaviours

  • Use three main assertiveness tools (basic, empathic and negative feelings)

  • Understand the importance of a range of communication tools and how to apply them

 

Unit 2 – Presentation Skills

  • Profile an audience and assess the best way to approach them

  • Structure a concise, interesting and persuasive presentation

  • Use body language effectively in presentations

 

Unit 3 – Stress Management in Teams
  • Define stress and its effect on both people and organisations

  • Identify the causes of stress

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of different strategies for reducing the causes of stress and coping with stress in a team environment

 

Unit 4 – Team Leadership
  • Understand the need for leadership and management skills in any supervisory role

  • Recognise the specific qualities of leadership and the needs of a team

  •  Identify the impact of leadership on the task, the team and the individual

  • Set and communicate goals

 

Unit 5 – Time Management and Planning
  • Set meaningful goals and SMART objectives

  • Prioritise tasks on the basis of urgency and importance in relation to job goals

  • Use diverse methods and tools to manage time effectively

 

Unit 6 – Interpersonal Communication
  • The elements of the communication process

  • The importance of active listening as the foundation for interpersonal communication

  • The barriers to effective interpersonal communication and how to overcome them

 

Unit 7 – Coaching and Feedback
  • Identify and classify areas for performance development (knowledge, skills and behaviour)

  • How to deliver feedback effectively

  • Motivate and coach future performance by focusing on goals and the actions needed to achieve them

 

Unit 8 – Creative Thinking & Problem Solving
  • Judge the importance of creative thinking in a business environment

  • Apply a range of thinking tools to generate creative ideas and develop solutions

  • Acquire the confidence and skills to promote fresh solutions within the company

 

Target Audience

For starting managers, supervisors and team leaders who have had little or no formal training.
